European Union Beach Cleanup – World CleanupDay 2022

This year, the European Union in Hong Kong and Macao took beach cleaning one step further with our new program @CleanupTime. In collaboration with the Swire Institute of Marine Science (SWIMS) of the The University of Hong Kong – HKU, the EU Office together with the teams of the Consulates General of the EU Member States in Hong Kong conducted a “scientific” beach cleaning at LapSapWan, Cape d’Aguilar. Debris were collected and separated for scientific analysis on plastic pollution.

Head of Office Mr Thomas Gnocchi welcomed and thanked everyone for participating in the annual EU BeachCleanup

Participants visited the SWIMS research facility to learn about the impact of plastic pollution on oceans, and the importance of marine research in Hong Kong.
